ORANGE BEACH, Ala. — On Sept. 16, two Orange Beach residents were aboard the second trip for Honor Flight—South Alabama.
Ed Borman and Ezell McLain were among the 92 veterans and 40 volunteer guardians that flew to Washington, D.C. before dawn and returned to Mobile Regional Airport after 7 p.m.
The day’s events included visiting the World War II Memorial, where they were met by U.S. Sen. Jeff Sessions and U.S. Rep. Jo Bonner, as well as former U.S. senators Bob and Elizabeth Dole.
The men and women also visited the other memorials on the National Mall and the Arlington National Cemetery.
Borman and McLain were welcomed home with flags waves and cheering and clapping by members of their families and their community.
Honor Flight—South Alabama held its inaugural flight in May 2009 and hopes to have at least three more trips. The volunteers that assist the veterans pay their own way but no veteran is allowed to pay, regardless of ability. For more information, visit honorflightsa.com.
