SPANISH FORT, Ala.—Bailey Ulmer was crowned Miss Spanish Fort High School 2009 Tuesday night at the Daphne Civic Center.
A crowd of about 350 cheered for 32 contestants competing for the title with the theme “On Quest for the Crown in the Wild Wild West.”
Ulmer, a junior, was crowned by Jamie Matthews, Miss Spanish Fort High School 2008.
First runner-up was junior Rachael Whatley; second runner-up was junior Kayla Travis; third runner-up was freshman Rebecca Womack; and fourth runner-up was sophomore Paige Asbill. Contestants voted Sarah Hirschseldt Miss Congeniality.
Pageant coordinator and teacher Melissa Brown said the event was memorable for everyone involved.
“The girls seemed to enjoy every aspect of the pageant and, hopefully, gained a learning experience as well as character-building opportunities from their participation,” Brown said.
The role of Miss Spanish Fort High School, she said, is to act as a role model among the student body as well as the community.
