FOLEY, Alabama — Five local non-profit agencies will be able to complete some much-needed capital projects after receiving grants from United Way of Baldwin County. Each of the five agencies awarded also receive funds from UWBC monthly to support their programs.
“We are excited to give out these grants today to five very deserving non-profit agencies that are all doing great work in Baldwin County,” said Patrick Bussey, chairman of UWBC’s Board of Directors. “By providing this funding, we enable these agencies to free up their time to focus on their mission and programs in the community.”
Christian Service Center
Christian Service Center, located in Gulf Shores, provides emergency aid assistance including rent, utility, medical and food to residents in coastal Alabama. Funds awarded from this grant will go to the installation of a walk-in freezer and generator system for their food pantry.
This freezer will provide more storage for donated food and the generator will ensure that power outages during storms and natural disasters will not result in a major loss of food.

Jennifer Claire Moore Foundation
The Jennifer Claire Moore Foundation provides training, funding and support for the Peer Helper Program in 47 schools in Baldwin County. Funding awarded from this grant will provide the foundation with new computers and servers that will enable the foundation to communicate with youth in an effective manner.

Light of the City
Light of the City, located in Bay Minette, is a free afterschool and summer program providing education and behavioral support to more than 250 students. The program is held in the old Douglasville School in Bay Minette.
Funding awarded from this capital grant will go to purchase air conditioning and gas heater units for the facility.

The Lighthouse
Baldwin County Family Violence Shelter, also known as The Lighthouse, specializes in providing support, preventing violence and promoting justice for victims of domestic violence and sexual assault.
Funds awarded from this capital grant will go to improve the security of their shelter facility.

The Shoulder
The Shoulder, located in Spanish Fort, is a 40-bed residential drug and alcohol treatment center for men. The program provides both in-house residential treatment to clients, as well as out-patient and group therapy for individuals in long-term recovery.
Funding awarded from this capital grant will go to purchase a reliable van to transport clients to places including health care facilities, church, job fairs, GED training and more.

“We are proud to support 32 non-profit agencies and all of these are an important part in the support of residents in Baldwin County,” Bussey said.
All 32 agencies supported by the United Way of Baldwin County are eligible for the grant awards and the recipients were selected after a review of all submitted applications. This is the second year in a row that the United Way of Baldwin County has offered capital grant opportunities to its partner agencies.
United Way of Baldwin County is a network of organizations that brings people together to tackle community issues with a goal of creating lasting change in the areas of health, education and financial stability. This is accomplished through a collaborative partnership with community partners and programs designed to address the needs of Baldwin County citizens.
United Way of Baldwin County holds an annual fundraising campaign that raises funds to support 32 non-profit agencies in Baldwin County. United Way of Baldwin County is a 501 (c) (3) organization.
