Unity to celebrate World Day of Prayer

Tomorrow, thousands of people around the globe will join Silent Unity, an international and nondenominational prayer ministry, in a sacred partnership of prayer for the 14th annual World Day of Prayer. The theme this year will be World Peace.

World Day of Prayer is open to people of all faiths. Its purpose is to unite as many people as possible in prayer for one another. Each year, millions of names that have been submitted are read aloud and prayed for, as part of the annual event.

Many of the approximately 900 Unity churches and study groups around the world will host World Day of Prayer interfaith events. An open house and day of prayer will be held at Unity on the Eastern Shore, located at 22979 U.S. Highway 98 in Montrose.

This local church will be open from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sept. 13 for the public to drop in and pray or meditate in a peaceful environment.

World Day of Prayer was first held in 1994, and was organized by Unity, which is based at Unity Village, Mo., near Kansas City. Hundreds of thousands of people have participated as prayer partners. Last year, the names of an estimated 1.3 million people were prayerfully acknowledged during the vigil.
