BAY MINETTE, Ala. — The cause of death of a Bay Minette woman, who died after a fire in her home Sunday, remains unknown.

As previously reported, a fire in the Hicktory Street duplex home of 78-year-old Louise Thomas broke out on Father’s Day with Thomas and her two grandsons inside. The two men got Thomas out of the home, and firefighters extinguished the blaze within 10 minutes of being alerted. However, Thomas soon developed problems.

As reported Wednesday in The Times, an ambulance took Thomas to North Baldwin Infirmary, but she died in the emergency room.

According to Baldwin County Coronor Stanley Vinson, a preliminary report from an autopsy conducted Monday came back “still pending.”

In a telephone interview Wednesday, Vinson said he waiting on a toxicology report, samples to come back or blood  work, which could take eight weeks to three months.

“We’re at the mercy of the state,” Vinson said.
