FAIRHOPE, Ala. After questions were raised this week about Mayor Tim Kant’s hiring of a local attorney for advice about a recent state Supreme Court ruling, Kant said today he would not ask the city to pay for those legal services but would pay for them privately.
“After thinking about it, I said I’d just pay for it myself and not cause any more issues and just do it myself,” Kant said July 15.
An article in today’s Fairhope Courier reported that Kant said earlier this week that he had the authority to hire Gulf Shores attorney David Whetstone without prior approval by the City Council, and that his monthly expense account of $1,000 would pay for those legal services.
“I didn’t say I was (going to use that account), I said I could,” Kant said today, referring to his statement reported in today’s Courier.
