SUMMERDALE — Summerdale Police Chief Eddie Ingram has been reportedly injured in the line of duty.

Social-media reports Friday indicated that he was hurt while working with U.S. Marshals to arrest 36-year-old Ray Gene Middleton II of Silverhill, a fugitive wanted for rape and failing to register.

As the officers brought Middleton out of the house, there was reported to be a struggle in which Middleton fell on Ingram, which cracked the police chief’s femur and crushed his knee.

Ingram was taken to Thomas Hospital for surgery on the injuries. Meanwhile, Middleton was held at the Foley jail before being transferred to the Baldwin County Corrections Center in Bay Minette. Middleton has a criminal history that dates back to 1995, according to the Baldwin county jail log, with such additional charges as obstructing government operations, criminal mischief in the second degree, harassment and multiple counts of receiving stolen property in the second degree,

Middleton is currently being held without bond on charges of assault in the second degree, resisting arrest, registration information required and felony attempting to elude.

Summerdale Town officials said Sgt. Trent Dennis is serving as acting police chief.
