Upgrades could splash into Bay Minette City Pool Complex

BAY MINETTE, Ala. — Upgrades to the Bay Minette City Pool Complex may soon be on the way.

The Bay Minette City Council is slated to discuss improvements to the facility during its next work session at 5 p.m. Monday, which will be followed by its regular meeting at 6 p.m.

According to a recommendation from Mayor Jamie Tillery, proposed improvements include the addition of an aluminum diving board, modifications to areas that currently house slides and adding salt cells to the pool.

“The salt-delivery systems have been a source of continual maintenance issues for the past two years,” Jamie stated in her written recommendation. “While the life of this system is stated at three to four years, obviously replacements are needed often.”

Tillery explained that her recommendations came under the advisement of pool experts and city maintenance staff.

“I believe the replacement of the salt system and the addition of the extra salt cells will better enhance our water quality and will be more cost effective to the city,” City Pool Director Janet Caraway wrote in her recommendation of the improvements. “Therefore, my suggestion would be to sign the four-year lease with Auto Pilot, make the necessary repairs to the two slides and diving board and let’s continue to be a better place to live, work and play.”

Also Monday, the Bay Minette City Council will:

* Hear a presentation from South Alabama Regional Planning representative Diane Burnett on the re-districting process

* Consider the city joining the South Alabama Purchasing Association, which City Finance Officer Joe Landenwich explained is a purchasing cooperative.

* Discuss signage for point-of-distribution sites for disaster-relief events.

* Discuss a vacation-of-property request.

* Consider the Finance Commitee’s accounts-payable report for Aug. 1.

* Recognize the City of Bay Minette 12-Year-Old All-Stars Baseball.
