DAPHNE, Ala.—Registration for Upward basketball and cheerleading for boys and girls in kindergarten through sixth grade will continue through Nov. 4 at Daphne United Methodist Church.  Applications are available online at www.dumc.org.

The $70 early registration fee includes a uniform and devotional materials. The fee will increase to $80 after Nov. 1. Evaluations will be held for all ages on Saturday, Nov. 1 from 9 a.m. to noon, and will continue on Nov. 3 and 4 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. in the Community Life Center. Practice will begin on Dec. 1, and the season will run from Jan. 10 through March 5.

Upward sports promote character and self-esteem. The evaluation system promotes equal teams, practices are limited to one hour per week, and each child has equal playing time. Emphasis is placed on fun and good sportsmanship, with a direct focus on learning the skills of the game.

Upward is a volunteer ministry at Daphne United Methodist Church.  Church members and coaches start each game with prayer, and they lead a devotional for families at halftime.
