PENSACOLA, Fla. — The United States Army Signal Corps Band will perform a free concert for music lovers at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, April 11, at the National Naval Aviation Museum in Pensacola.

The evening will feature an enchanting blend of jazz, patriotic music, Broadway show tunes and other contemporary popular music.

The 434th Army Band, based out of Fort Gordon, Ga., takes pride in performing its duties of promoting morale and esprit de corps by providing the highest quality of music to audiences of all ages.

In addition to its military duties, the band travels throughout the Central Savannah River Area and recently Florida and New Orleans, promoting the Army image and enhancing relations between military and civilian communities.

The United States Army Signal Corps Band is comprised of 35 musicians from across the United States with a musical repertoire spanning jazz, blues and rock genres.

The Signal Corps Band, as with all U.S. Army Bands, is made up of professional players who have chosen to make both music and the military their full-time gigs. Many members have college degrees, some with a master’s degree.

Historically, musicians have been an integral part of the military even before the U.S. Army was created in 1775. From the signal corps drummers in the Revolutionary War to the full brass bands of WWII, music has been a critical part of the Army’s success.

Whether it’s a ceremonial performance or a concert to boost the morale of soldiers, U.S. Army Band members have the unique opportunity to serve their country while making music.
