DAPHNE — The United States Sports Academy has announced the creation of the Academy Scholarship for Wounded Warriors. Academy President and CEO Dr. Thomas P. Rosandich kicked off the scholarship fundraising drive with a $150,000 donation.
United States military personnel that have been wounded in combat in Iraq, Afghanistan and other “hot spots” throughout the world may receive full tuition scholarships for the academy’s Bachelor of Sports Science, Master of Sport Science or Doctor of Education degree programs.
“On one of my frequent trips to Washington, D.C., I was privileged to be invited by the commander of the Walter Reed Medical Center to visit with young Americans wounded in combat,” said Rosandich. “The visit turned out to be the most emotional day of my life.”
The academy’s degree programs are offered online via distance learning.
“The goal of this scholarship is to help prepare disabled veterans to go out and become a coach or athletic administrator,” said Rosandich. “This is a traumatic time for these young men, most of whom are in their early 20s. Like an infant learning to walk, many of the disabled soldiers have to relearn how to move with a prosthetic.”
The scholarship covers all tuition toward a bachelor’s, master’s or doctoral degree, including a waiver of application and transcript evaluation fees.
To view admission requirements, download the academy’s degree catalogs at www.ussa.edu or call 1-800-223-2668.
The United States Sports Academy’s Scholarship for Wounded Warriors helps people in sport education and is not related to other wounded warrior projects.
