FAIRHOPE, Ala. — An oil disaster webinar, “Recovering from the BP Gulf Oil Disaster: Lessons Learned from Exxon Valdez,” will be held July 13, from 2 to 3:30 p.m., at the University of South Alabama Baldwin County Performance Center, 111 St. James Ave. in Fairhope (corner of Summit Street). The event is free and open to the public, and seating is on a first-come, first-served basis.
What will be the long-term impact on businesses and livelihoods from the oil spill? Learn more in the presentation by the National Association of Development Organizations (NADO) in cooperation with the U.S. Economic Development Administration (EDA).
Other issues include the role of local government, how public and mental health issues are best handled and how the workforce can be diversified.
Two presenters, Molly McCammon and Dave Cobb, will share their thoughts on obstacles to the oil spill recovery.
McCammon is the executive director of the Alaska Ocean Observing System and former executive director of the Exxon Valdez Oil Spill Trustee Council. Cobb is the business manager of Valdez Fisheries, the former mayor of Valdez, Ak. and a former member of the Valdez Oil Spill Trustee Council.
