GULF SHORES, Alabama —  It was another gorgeous afternoon in Gulf Shores, as the third and final day of the 2013 AVCA Collegiate Sand Volleyball National Championships got underway. After LBSU claimed the Team Championship on Saturday, their top pair of Roenicke and Ledoux would take to the sand in the 16-team Pairs Championship.

The format consisted of a 16-team bracket seeded according to performance both throughout the season and during this weekend's play. USC's Burnham and Robinson entered the tournament as the top overall seed.

After dispatching Jenkins and Whitmire of North Florida in straight sets, Burnham and Robinson advanced to play Sukach and Markova, Louisiana-Monroe's top pair. ULM's top duo would battle hard, but Burnham and Robinson won the match 2-1 and moved on to face Georgia State's Carico and Madewell. The GSU pair bounced back from their performance in pools play, winning yesterday's play-in match to earn a spot in the Pairs Championship.

It would be a close match, but Burnham and Robinson proved too tough for the GSU duo.

LBSU's Roenicke and Ledoux advanced through the Pairs Championship bracket in impressive fashion, defeating Arriola and Keil of Loyola Marymount 2-0 and then beating USC's second pair, Sary and Fuller, in straight sets. They would then dispatch Florida International's Mendoza and Samoday to clinch a spot in the Pairs Championship match, where they fell in the 2012 AVCA Collegiate Sand Volleyball Pairs Championship.

The finals would prove to be a competitive affair, and the crowd was rowdy as they packed it in around Championship Court. USC's Burnham and Robinson took the first set 21-19, but it didn't come easily. LBSU's Ledoux and Roenicke would continue to battle in set 2, responding nearly every time that Burnham and Robinson would make a short run. The USC pair would finally prevail, though, and won set 2 21-19 to win the 2013 AVCA Collegiate Sand Volleyball National Championship 2-0.
