Read your power bill. Divide your “fuel adjustment” by “electric usage dollars” and you will be aware that each month, through an unknown formula, an additional 8, 23, 28, or 32 percent or more undefined dollars are charged for whatever reason.
If you live in an apartment complex and a private garbage collector such as BFI is paid by your management from your rents, your city utility bill still charges you about $15.55 for a service not provided by the city. Residents of one major 184-unit complex on Greeno Road are collectively paying almost $35,000 this year for nothing, yet the city utility department does not reap the rewards. What fund receives this money?
Where are the dollars derived from “fuel adjustments” and “add-on garbage fees?” Would we not want to know?
Since those dollars are unaccountable, why are we to allow our city fathers to levy a sales tax that, when collected, is thrown into the abyss of the monopoly game at City Hall?
