Robert “Bob” Vealey, a native of Hackensack, N.J., and a resident of Gulf Shores, died Monday, Aug. 20, 2007.

After retiring from his positiion as foreman in a chemical factory, he moved to Gulf Shores. In 1999 he married his bride Edna and they lived an active life together.

He faithfully served as a member of our local American Legion. He was always placing flags on the deceased veterans’ graves whenever the occasion occurred. He proudly served his country in World War II as a gunner on the ship Dupage during his tour of duty.

Mr. and Mrs. Vealey enjoyed dancing wevery Wednesday and Saturday nights. “He was an excellent dancer. He even at one point of his life was a dance instructor. We had so much fun,” said Edna Vealey.

He served as chaplain at the Foley Senior Center. That position was very important to him. He and his wife were greeters at the door of every scheduled event. He helped schedule those events for the center and was more than helpful whenever he was called upon.

Survivors include his wife, Edna Vealey of Gulf Shores; four daughters, Roberta Mann of Palmyla, Va., Rose Brock of Middleton, N.Y., Roxanne Jackler of Goshen, N.Y., and Robyn Ward of Newfoundland, N.J.; and step-daughter, Pamela Heilmeier of Foley.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.
