Versia Stan Long, native of Pontiac, Mich., but longtime resident of Fairhope, went to be with our Lord on Jan. 7, 2014.
Mrs. Long graduated from Pontiac Senior High School in May 1945, and went to work for General Motors until 1946.
In April 1951, she joined the U.S. Navy and was subsequently stationed in Norfolk, Va. and Pearl Harbor, Hawaii Territory.
While in Hawaii, Versia met her husband, Aubrey Long of Bay Minette. They were married in Hawaii in 1955, and were reassigned stateside to Jacksonville, Fla. where their only child, Linda, was born.
Finishing service to country, the family moved to Baldwin County.
Mrs. Long worked more than 28 years for South Central Bell, and served as a Telephone Pioneer the final few years of service in Birmingham.
Following retirement she relocated to Baldwin County to care for her father, and to be near family.
Versia was a world traveler and a trailblazer in her own right, as well as a caregiver. She will be sorely missed by family and friends.
Mrs. Long was preceded in death by her father, John; mother, Eva; husband, Aubrey; and sister, Virginia.
She leaves behind her daughter, Linda (Skip) Caldwell of Bay Minette; granddaughter, Shannon (Kevin) Wilson of Pensacola, Fla.; grandson Aubrey (Michelle) Lunsford of Silverhill; four great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. and funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 10, 2014 at Mack Funeral Home in Robertsdale.
Mrs. Long will be laid to rest in Bay Minette.
Arrangements by Mack Funeral Home & Crematory, Robertsdale.
