Vesta Cornelia Blackmon Caprara

Vesta Cornelia Blackmon Caprara, 95, born in Bratt, Fla. to James B. and Cornelia White Blackmon, and a former resident of the Pine Grove community currently residing in Montgomery, died peacefully Monday, July 21, 2014 at Waterford Place in Montgomery.

She was a licensed practical nurse.

After obtaining her nursing degree, she worked at Mobile Infirmary and Providence Hospital.

After moving to Bay Minette, she worked for Dr. Joseph A. Mahoney, and the Baldwin County Board of Education as a school nurse in the special education department before retiring.

She sang and preached the word of God for many years in Baldwin County. She was a pastor of Little River Holiness Church, Pine Grove Holiness Church and Horseneck Fork Holiness Church.

She was also an owner of Caprara’s Flower Shop for 15 years.

She is survived by her children, Shirley (Ron) Caprara-Creel of Montgomery, Harry (Jo Ann) Caprara of Spanish Fort, James B. (Sharon) Caprara of Arlington, Texas and Russell A. (Brenda) Caprara of Montgomery; 16 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Louis J. Caprara; four brothers; and two sisters.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 24, 2014, at 11 a.m., at the chapel of Norris Funeral Home in Bay Minette, with Jerry Perkins officiating.

Burial will follow at Pine Grove Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, July 23, 2014, from 6 until 9 p.m., at Norris Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Randall Louis McKissack M.D., Steven Curtis McKissack, John W. Perrett, Shane English, Kevin Scott Caprara, Jay Randall Morris, Evan Paul McKissack and James Tyler McKissack.

Honorary pallbearers will be Jay Scott Morris, Wesley Armon Jabbari, Elliott Johnson, Ethan Caprara, Keith Russell Caprara, Hayden Ellis and Trevor Caprara.
