Virginia A. Nugent-Jager Bolhuis, 86, of Battle Creek, Mich., died Saturday, Nov. 20, 2010 at Lifespan Good Samaritan Hospice Residence, Battle Creek, after a one-year battle with bone cancer.

She was born Dec. 21, 1923 in Clawson, Mich., to Leo and Vienna Cole Nugent. She grew up in Bear Lake, Mich., graduating from Bear Lake High School in 1942. She lived and worked in Manistee, Ludington, and Grand Rapids, before moving to Battle Creek in 2002.

Through the years, she enjoyed winters at her vacation home on Canal Road in Gulf Shores. While there, she attended First Baptist Church and the Christian Women’s Club. She loved walking on the beach, watching the barges go by her home and spending time with her Gulf Shores friends.

She was married to William Fink from 1942 to 1977, to Theodore Jager from 1980 to 2002, and to John Bolhuis from 2002 until April 2010. Besides her husbands she was preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors include two daughters, Mary Ann (Larry) Rebert of Delton, Mich., and Claudia (Larry) Linsley of Battle Creek, Mich.; sister, Joan (Harold) Myers of Newaygo, Mich., and Gulf Shores; six grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, two nieces, one nephew and cousins.

Visitation begins at 11 a.m. with funeral servies at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 24 at Shaw Funeral Home, Battle Creek, Mich. Committal service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Nov. 29 at Fairview Cemetery in Bear Lake, Mich.

The family requests memorial donations be made to Fredonia Home Grange, Faith Baptist Church or Radio Bible Class.
