Virginia Lee “Mammy” Ray

Virginia Lee “Mammy” Ray, 83, a native of Mobile, a former resident of Robertsdale and current resident of Silverhill, passed away on Friday, June 28, 2013.

Mrs. Ray was an active member of Robertsdale First Baptist Church, teaching Sunday School and working with the youth program.

She loved to attend all of her grandchildren’s and great-grandchildren’s sporting events, not wanting to miss a single game. Mrs. Ray was an Atlanta Braves fan, especially cheering on her all-time favorite player, Chipper Jones.

She loved to travel, bream fish and work her puzzle books.

She is survived by her daughter, Sheila (Bryan) Swindle of Silverhill; three grandchildren, Tiffaney (Jonathan) Plato and Kerie (Stevie) Foley, both of Robertsdale and Corey (Marissa) Swindle of Fairhope; and seven great-grandchildren, Alexis, Hunter, Hope, Kristen, Brody, Benjamin and Tallon.

Funeral services will be held Monday, July 1, 2013, at 2 p.m., at the Robertsdale First Baptist Church, with the Rev. Richard Herbert and the Rev. Bob Tucker officiating. Burial will be in the Silverhill Cemetery.

A visitation will be held at the church from 12:30 p.m. until service time.
