Virginia S. “Ginger” Hall, 79, of Lillian, passed away at her home Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2014, following a well-fought battle with lung cancer.
She was born in Ponce de Leon, Fla. on Nov. 29, 1934.
Ginger attended Pensacola High School, but transferred to Foley High School during her senior year. She graduated from Troy University with a B.S. in business administration.
A career civil servant, she retired in 1994 after more than 30 years of service, finishing her career working as a programmer/computer systems analyst for the Department of Defense Finance and Accounting Service (DFAS).
Ginger was an active member of the Lillian United Methodist Church. She also belonged to many local social organizations.
She and her children accompanied her husband, Bill, on his military assignments, both in the U.S. and Europe, until his retirement from the USAF in 1974.
She was a ray of sunshine, greatly loved by her family and friends. She left a lasting impression on the hearts of everyone who knew her.
Ginger was preceded in death by her parents, Lillian A. Stiller and Votah Stiller; and her two brothers, Tommy Stiller and Jimmy Stiller.
She is survived by her husband of more than 61 years, Bill; her daughter, Terri (Bruce) Barthold); her sons, Doug and Ted Hall; and three granddaughters, Caitlin and Jillian Barthold and Shelby Walker.
The family would like to especially thank the amazing medical staff in the ICU and 5-West at the Pensacola Naval Hospital for their dedication and compassionate care for Ginger and the entire family.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Lillian United Methodist Church, 13770 S. Perdido St., Lillian, AL 36549, or to a charity of choice.
A memorial service will be held at Lillian UMC at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 27, 2014.
