MONTGOMERY, Alabama - Baldwin County has five teams representing it in today’s South Super Regional volleyball tournament at the Cramton Bowl Multiplex in Montgomery. The tournament is single-elimination format and the top four teams from the South Super Regional will face the top four from the North in the Elite Eight in Pelham Oct. 31-Nov. 1.

Class 6A Area 3 winner Robertsdale will face Prattville at 4:15 p.m. while runner-up Daphne will take on Thompson at 6:45 p.m. Class 5A Area 2 winner Spanish Fort will play Demopolis at 11:30 a.m. today, while runner-up Gulf Shores will face Sumter Central at 9 a.m. In Class 3A, Area 1 winner and 10-time defending champion Bayside Academy will face Central Coosa at 9 a.m.

The Super Regional is a change from previous seasons, when area winners hosted sub-state before the Regional.

“We lost the sub-state round,” Spanish Fort head coach Barclay Kercher said after the 5A Area 1 tournament. “Usually area winners host runners up in sub-state, but this year we all go to the Super Regional.”

The winners of today’s first round matchups will play on Saturday beginning at 9 a.m. Play continues throughout the day with championship rounds beginning at 6 p.m. for 3A and 5A and 7:30 p.m. for Class 6A.
