Wants no aviation training for Fairhope

Those attempting to coax the Navy to station a training unit in our airport should consider the following:

Some time ago, a similar unit trained in the Gulfport, Miss. airport. The noise of its landings and takeoffs was thoroughly hated by most of the population. It would even wake up babies!

The encroaching subdivisions of Silverhill, where the unit is now stationed, are unhappy with the weekday, daylight flights — 1,038 maneuvers last June. Fairhope’s plans are to offer the Navy 7/24 usage. Nearby residents are already teed off with the few night flights there now.

How long will it be until the area between the airport and Fairhope — just 2.5 miles — will also be subdivisions? The time is past to consider this a rural area. Here’s hoping the Navy can find an alternative.
