Charles F. “Chuck” Wasson. 87 of Spanish Fort, born Dec. 11, 1920 in Cambridge, Ohio, the son of Hazel and Frederick Wasson, died Thursday, Feb. 7, 2008 after a short illness at Westminister Village, overlooking Mobile Bay.
He was a devoted husband and father. He was a graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy and served as the navigator on the USS Texas during World War II. He continued his service to the country as a member of the elite team at the Manned Spacecraft Center in Houston for 16 years and helped put the first man on the moon. As a resident of the Lake Forest Community, he and his wife, Elizabeth “IB” Wasson, spent their retirement years on the golf course, and traveling.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Owen and Harry; and three sisters, Agnus, Thelma and Naomi.
Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Elizabeth “IB” Wasson; daughter, Candis Johnson of Pensacola, Fla.; son, Burke (Gale) Wasson of Nacogdoches, Texas; brother, Jan Wasson of Florida and grandson, Matthew Johnson of Mayer, Minn.
Interment will be held on a family plot in Houston at a later date.
