BAY MINETTE, Ala. — Plans to expand access to public water in the Dyas community are expected to begin soon.
“That project is going to kick off after the first of the year,” North Baldwin Utilities General Manager Jason Padgett announced during Wednesday’s regular monthly board meeting.
The project, which was awarded to R&B Contractors in October, will provide NBU with 78 customers in the north Baldwin community. It’s an endeavor that’s being addressed in conjunction with Baldwin County Commission’s own plans to pave roads in the area.
“We’re laying 20,000 feet of (water) pipe,” Padgett said. “We’re boring into I-65, along the railroad and also along (U.S. Highway) 31.”
As previously reported, the $600,000 project is funded through a community-development-block grant, in which NBU is to pay $100,000 and the rest is provided by ADECA. Once it’s completed, the new pipes will join existing structures to create a loop that will reroute water to the customers, should the need arise.
Padgett told the board, on Wednesday, that before the project begins a progress meeting would be held on Jan. 3.
Also Wednesday, the NBU Board heard Padgett:
· Report that in November, NBU tapped water service on Monumental Loop, Marlin Street, Old Place Road and King Lane.
· Report that NBU had no sanitary-sewer overflows in November.
· Report that NBU had no well-source data violations of the permit requirements.
