BAY MINETTE, ala. — Michael Jon Watton, 28, of Dayton, TX was indicted on December 28 on one count of Robbery in the Frist Degree of the RBC Bank in Robertsdale on Friday, October 1 in the Circuit Court of Baldwin County in Bay Minette.

Bond was set at $100,000 and Watton remains the Baldwin County Correctional Facility in Bay Minette. An arraignment is scheduled for February 16 in Judge Robert Wilters courtroom.

Arrested at his grandmothers residence on County Road 36 on Summerdale, RPD Sgt. Rex Bishop said some of the money was recovered along with the black Jeep Cherokee Watton was driving, thanks to a tip received from the F.B.I hotline, surveillance video and pictures taken at the scene on that Friday.

The vehicle, belonging to Watton’s fiancé, wias processed and released back to her, Bishop said, because she had no involvement or knowledge about the robbery. She returned to Texas.

In the area visiting relatives and seeking employment, Watton was making plans to s return to Texas, Bishop said, when the arrest occurred. It is believed his mother also lives around this area but had no knowledge of Watton’s involvement in the robbery.

Bishop said the arrest went smoothly with no resistance from Watton but his grandmother was visibly upset and had not seen any news reports about the robbery and had no idea he was involved in any of it.

“We were able to get some good information that lead us to the suspect through video, footprints, pictures and viewer tips. I am very glad we were able to get him,” Bishop said.

This is the first robbery in Robertsdale since February 12, 1956, RPD Chief Brad Kendrick said, where they got away with $300-500. “And back then, that was a huge amount of money.”

“Because of good communication and everyone working together, we were able to get to him quickly,” Kendrick said.
