WBWW Annual Plant Sale this week

MIFLIN, Ala. — The Wolf Bay Watershed Watch (WBWW) Annual Plant Sale and Trash & Treasure Sale begins today and extends through Saturday at the Miflin Community Center.

“It’s been a tough winter but everything is on the verge of popping and being in bloom,” said Paul Ware, president of WBWW, this week.

For people just getting over winter’s “cabin fever” as Ware calls it, the Annual Plant Sale offers a chance to get out and look for bargains galore with Master Gardeners on hand to offer expert advice on how to get the most out of a variety of plants for sale, including those native to our area.

Those plants include hummingbird and butterfly plants, wetland plants, wild azaleas, roses and more.

Ware notes the Annual Plant Sale will also have citrus producing trees, flowering trees, shrubs, bedding plants, hanging baskets and some tropicals.

The Annual Plant Sale is spearheaded by WBWW’s “greenhouse managers,” Jessy Mahoney and Tom Dukes.

Along with the Plant Sale, WBWW will have its Trash & Treasures Sale - what Ware calls a “porch” sale, which is sure to have “some treasures,” he said.

The proceeds from the four-day sale go to youth education efforts.

“We’ve established two formal scholarships this year,” Ware said of WBWW. “One will go to a local South Baldwin high school student.”

The other scholarship will fund a Dauphin Island Sea Lab experiment to be conducted in this area.

“We hope a lot of people will turn out for the Plant Sale and buy plants and trees that will make our beautiful area even more beautiful,” Ware said.

The Plant Sale and Trash & Treasure Sale will be held from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day. The Miflin Community Center is located at the intersection of Baldwin County Road 20 and County Road 83.
