FAIRHOPE, Ala. — The Baldwin County Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration Committee has assembled a weekend of activities to commemorate the life of Dr. King and celebrate his birthday. The Theme for 2008 is Not A Day Off … Moving the Dream Forward.

The first activity will be the Annual Leadership Breakfast, set for Saturday, Jan. 19. The Breakfast will be held at Riley Hall, 26258 Pollard Road, in Daphne. Tickets are $25 each and can be purchased from board members. The keynote speaker will be newspaper reporter Rhoda Pickett of Mobile

On Sunday evening, Jan. 20, the second activity, the Annual Memorial Program, will take place at 6, hosted by Southside Baptist Church, 323 W. Michigan Ave. in Foley.

The 21st Annual Martin Luther King Memorial March will wrap-up the weekend. This year’s march will be held Monday, Jan. 21, in Bay Minette, beginning at 10 a.m. at Kid Park and end at the Bay Minette Civic Center.

The Keynote speaker at the event will be Kym Thurman, anchor for NBC WPMI-15. Thurman has more than 15 years experience as a broadcast journalist. All pastors, community leaders will assemble in the front row of marchers to begin the march. Any automobiles can follow the marches to the Civic Center.

The committee encourages residents to keep their headlights on throughout the day on Jan. 21 for Dr King’s birthday.

Churches and community organizations should bring a list containing the number and names of participants to the registration table at the end of the march so that the King Committee can recognize them for their participation.
