William G. “Pop” Weekes, died Tuesday, Sept. 18, 2007.

He was loved by many for hjis quick wit, wonderful humor and loving spirit. He loved living his life close to the water and never left his home where he enjoyed countless fishing days.

Being a leader in his church and community, you could always find him willing to spare his time and talent freely to help others. If you were in the area of St. John’s Catholic Church on Sunday or at the time of a funeral, you could count on hearing beautiful music from his faithful tolling of the bell.

He was preceded in death by his fishing partner Edward Rayford “Ray” Twilley; three brothers, Carlton, Clyde and Olyn Weekes; and five sisters, Ruby, Mary, Jeanette, Ola and Oveida.

Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Sarah Frances LaCoste Weekes of Weeks Bay; daughter, Margaret Rush Twilley of Weeks Bay; four grandchildren, William Melton “Bo” (Cindy) Weaver of Weeks Bay, Mary Frances (Larry) McPherson of Walnut Hill, Fla., Michael Glenn (Deanna) Weaver of Atmore, and Marcus Lavon Weaver of Weeks Bay; brother, Brady Z. (Betty) Weekes; nieces, nephews, many close friends and family.

Visitation will be held from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Firday, Sept. 21 at Pine Rest Funeral Home. The Rosary will be recited at 6 p.m. Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. with Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 22 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 10800 St. John’s Lane, Magnolia Springs. Burial followed at St. John the Baptist Cemetery, Magnolia Springs.
