Preston David Weekley Jr. of Houston, died Sunday, Nov. 8, 2009 due to complications from chemotherapy.
He was a long-time resident of Mobile, but moved to Houston in 2007.
Born May 25, 1940 in Mobile, he grew up in Bay Minette, where he met and married Ina Belle Patterson.
He was an active member of Tallowood Baptist Church in Houston and was previously a member of Spring Hill Baptist Church in Mobile.
He attended Clarke Memorial Junior College and Mississippi Southern University and then enlisted in the Air Force in 1962. He worked for a number of years as a steward in the offshore oil industry and owned several restaurants in the Mobile area, but was most passionate about his frequent visits to the Smokey Mountains.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Preston David Weekley Sr. and Martha Lowery; and two brothers George Abner and Clarence Arthur.
Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Ina Weekley; daughter Phyllis Weekley (Barrett) Rouse; grandchildren, James Preston, Ryan Brooks, Katherine Claire and Emily Patterson; and three siblings, William Carlos Weekley of Bay Minette, Olivia Joyner McKinley of Fort Mill, S.C., and Jane Weekley Lenhardt of Buffalo, N.Y.
The family requests memorial donations be made to Whispering Pines Baptist Camp.
