William Lacy Wharton Jr., 84, a native of Winston-Salem, N.C., a resident of Spanish Fort, died Saturday, March 8, 2008 in Spanish Fort.
He was a member of Springhill Presbyterian Church.
After serving in the South Pacific in World War II and graduating from North Carolina State with a degree in forestry, he moved to Mobile in 1947.
His community activities include being scout master for Boy Scout Troop 16 and activity in PTA, Little League and Cub Scouts. He was an active member of his church as elder, deacon, trustee, and Sunday School Teacher, among other positions.
Survivors include his wife, Ruby Wentz Wharton; three children, William Lacy Wharton III, Mary Jane Wharton Hall and Dr. John Marcus Wharton; five grandchildren, William Mitchell Wharton, Robert Green Hall, William Everett Hall, Mary Kristina Wharton and Katherine Hanes Wharton.
A memorial Service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 15 at Spring Hill Presbyterian Church.
The family requests memorial donations be made to Spring Hill Presbyterian Chapel Fund.
