The Art of Iconography had its beginnings after Constantine the Great converted to Christianity and works throughout the Roman Empire are believed to date to the 4th century. Characterized by vivid colors, the subjects depicted in icons seem to float unbounded with exaggerated features: long hands, necks and noses to remind the viewer that the image is not human. Artist Balpha Noojin has been writing icons for over fifteen years, studying under master iconographer Phillip Zimmerman, founder and director of St John of Demascus Icon Studio. If you are interested in participating in a five day icon workshop with Mr. Noojin please contact the OBAC.
