What's happening at Bayside Academy

If you have been reading this column for the past several weeks, then you know it has been rigorously following the progress of the fourth-graders.

This week there is more to add about their educational journey: They officially ended their Native American unit with their bringing home all the projects they have spent time creating. These projects include their rainsticks from science class and their Indian villages.

The fourth-graders will be greeted as they return to school from Thanksgiving break with the unit on explorers of the New World in the Alabama area. As an appropriate send-off to the fourth-graders, the first Thanksgiving was discussed as each student said something that he or she was thankful for.

On Dec. 6, the second through fourth grades will be having a Christmas program. There will be great photo ops as each of the students will be in costume. A dress rehearsal will be held at 1:15 p.m.

In fourth-grade science, the students have been testing the local tap water. These young scientists have been testing the pH; the chlorine, iron and copper content grade and the hardiness of the water.

As Thanksgiving comes to a close, the Christmas season is bursting into effect.

A symbol of change is evident in the SGA Christmas Dance on Saturday, Dec. 1.

This dressy dance promises to be fun and exciting for the students and will provide a little mingling time outside of class for grades nine through 12.

The dance will be from 9 p.m. to 12 a.m. in the Moorer gymnasium.
