What’s happening at Christ the King

Christmas is in the air, especially in the music room at CKCS.

Students are walking around campus humming tunes they can’t get out of their heads.

The eighth-grade King’s Choir is practicing a choral program to present to several nursing homes in the area. They will spread their Christmas spirit of sharing themselves as well as their voices as they carol from place to place.

The fourth-grade recorder classes are busy learning notes as they prepare to join in the Christmas Program on Dec. 19 at 7 pm.

They will entertain us with four selections.

The fifth- to eighth-grade band, part of the McGill- Toolen Prep Band, under the direction of Marion Harmon, will join in the Christmas Program to give us a taste of what they have been working on.

Last, but not least, our first-graders will present a Christmas play, “A Tail From the Manger.” A donkey, a few cows and sheep, and an angel will give us their view on what happened in Bethlehem on that starry-filled night.

Sixth grade students are busy giving oral presentations of various topics from the 1930s that they have researched as part of their Decades Project.

First-graders went to a ballet, “Alice in Wonderland.”

Speaking of field trips, the kindergarten classes had a wonderful time at “The Nutcracker” ballet in Fairhope.

In science, eighth-graders are team teaching the chapter on energy themselves.

Seventh-graders are learning the Photosynthesis Cheer in order to memorize the chemical equation for photosynthesis.

Fifth-graders from both classes were hard at work making paper airplanes in Language Arts last week.

Why?

Because students are working on writing how-to paragraphs, and they made the planes following the steps in a process.

Thank you to everyone who helped us exceed our $2,000 goal for November outreach. The total amount collected for Lanterns Light in New Orleans is $2,346.93.

The class winner for donations is 8A (Mr. Rutkowski’s class) collecting $325.

Congratulations to these students and thanks to everyone for their efforts!

The Outreach for December is Toys for the poor of Baldwin County.

Also, we are still collecting diapers and wipes for ToBe in Fairhope as part of Kayla Thomas’ leadership project. A truck load of diapers has already been delivered to ToBe.
