First-graders had the privilege of doing the readings for the mass on Friday, April 4, which was Pastor Appreciation Day and also in honor of Fr. Timothy Deasy’s Golden Jubilee as a priest!

The chess team completed their season in the Mobile-Baldwin County Chess League as Middle School Champions, tied for overall second place in the league with the Alabama School of Math and Science. Allen Davis was named one of four league All Stars. Also competing for CKCS were Matthew Davis, Ben Hodde, Matthew Mead, Harrison Stevens, Daniel Volovecky, Liam Treutel, Ross Paris-Harbison, Laina Kennedy, Alex Adent, Kate Risk, Marissa Cazalas and Garner Graves. The top four players on the team will travel to Jacksonville, Ala., next weekend to compete in the State Chess Championships.

The eighth grade received the sacrament of Confirmation in a beautiful ceremony presided over by Archbishop Lipscomb. The ceremony was followed by a reception in the gym.

Sixth-graders are celebrating Poetry Month by writing poems. We are writing a haiku and a concrete poem.

Seventh-grade students have been creating memory devices such as songs and pneumonic devices to help them remember the bones and muscles in their bodies.

Seventh grade is working on an ABC book about themselves. They are writing a variety of things — such as stories, poems and reflections — to put in this book.
