Last week in Mrs. Otto’s class, kindergarteners learned about Advent as a time of great anticipation, excitement and joy as they prepare for the coming of Jesus Christ on Christmas day.
Last Monday the second-graders had an exciting day as they attended the science lab with Dr. Griffin. They made Venn diagrams about day and night. Everyone has done and continues to do a great job with the letter names and sounds. Great job, second grade!
Last week, Mrs. Summerford’s third-grade class was studying rocks and minerals. They were learning the three types of rocks and how they were formed. They also made a model of a fossil and described what fossils are and how they are formed.
Thank you, Mrs. Summerford, for always making fossils sound new and exciting!
The fifth-graders completed an awesome assignment for a book project that required the students to design a book jacket for a recently read book. Once again, the fifth-graders put a smile on Mrs. Wilson’s face as she was in awe of the amazing work presented by her students. Way to go fifth-graders!
In fifth-grade science, Mrs. Mulkerne conducted a cool experiment using leaves and polish remover to extract chlorophyll from leaves. The results are amazing!
The students in class 5B have written prayers based on the O antiphons.
They chose one of the seven antiphons and wrote a prayer using it as the opening of a prayer. Each of the antiphons is based on an Old Testament title for Jesus. Finally, both fifth-grade classes were delighted to walk their kindergarten buddies to the Daphne Post Office to mail their letters to Santa.
The seventh-grade class was busy dissecting starfish last Monday and learned all about the water vascular system. They also made Rag Wreaths as gifts for special family members and they are writing advent prayers to attach to the wreaths.
On Monday they went to the Explorium to see the Grossology exhibit.
Last Wednesday the eighth-grade students traveled to Mercy Medical, Westminster Village, Catherine Place and Carroll Place to visit and serenade the residents with beautiful Christmas Carols as their angelic voices carried the spirit of love into their hearts.
Last Friday the eighth-graders presented their puppet plays. These puppet plays were written, produced, designed and created by the eighth-grade students. Presentation was done to the whole eighth-grade class. Five were voted on as the favorite Puppet Plays. These plays were then presented to the second-grade buddies.
On a sad note, we send special best wishes, along with our prayers, to Mrs. Schmidt, our teacher in 8B, as she leaves her beloved students and CKCS this semester.
We are out of school now, but we will be back on Jan. 7, 2008. So until then, may you have a blessed, safe and beautiful Christmas season and a happy New Year to you and your loved ones.
