Hey, hey, hey — this is Sasha and guess what the kindergartners are doing this week? They learned about pilgrims and their boat the Mayflower. I remember when we got to make decorations for Turkey Day. Well, the KA class is making pilgrim hats, placemats, and cornucopias.

The 5B class wrote a book. It is called “Never Ending Important Books” about European explorers. Everyone had their own explorer and had to do research about them in the library. This is the first time they had to write a bibliography, but it won’t be their last!

The sixth-graders visited the International Festival. They also wrote a two-paragraph essay describing what it takes to be a good substitute teacher.

The eighth graders also went to the International Festival and had a good time.

There will be a First Reconciliation meeting for second-graders’ parents on Wednesday, Nov. 28, in Assumption Hall at 7 p.m.

The Scholastic Book Fair begins on Monday, Nov. 26. Parents and grandparents are invited to shop for Christmas gifts. In fact, on Sunday, Dec.2, the library will be open from 9:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. for anyone who wishes to shop. This is a great chance to give the gift of reading to someone you love.

Our Scholar’s Bowl team played Bayside Academy and Fairhope High School on Wednesday, Nov. 14. Our A team won both matches and our B team won against Fairhope. Congratulations! The A team members include: Walsh Millette as captain, Allen Davis, Liam Treutel, Ashley Kinsey and Denman Mims. The B team members include: Daniel Volovecky, as captain, Elizabeth Glaser, Will Anderson, Emily Gabel and Ashley Szydel.

The CKCS Chess Team competed in their second league match last Thursday. Competing against all high-school opponents, they won two and lost one. The A team defeated the Alabama School of Math and Science C team. The B team defeated the Alma Bryant High School C-team. The C-team lost to the Foley High School A team. Competing for CKCS were Allen Davis, Matthew Davis, Ben Hodde, Harrison Stevens, Matthew Mead, Blake Hickey, Ross Paris-Harbison, Daniel Volovecky, Laina Kennedy, Marissa Cazalas, Kate Risk and Garner Graves.

Our eighth-graders participated in the 2008 Scripps National Spelling Bee on Monday. The winner was Sally Robertson and runner-up was Daniel Volovecky. These two students will compete in February with other students from the Archdiocesan schools.
