DAPHNE, Ala.— The end of the first quarter is the Dec. 19 with report cards going home on Jan. 9, 2009.
Thank you to the Daphne High School Choir for coming to Daphne Elementary to sing Christmas songs this week. The favorite by far was the “Fruitcake” song!
Mrs. Riel’s first-graders are doing lots of Christmas activities and learning about different traditions around the world. The first-grade classes will be traveling around the world visiting a new country to learn about traditions from other parts of the world. On Friday the students are going to see the movie “The Tale of Despereaux.” The class has been reading the novel this past month.
Everyone is looking forward to Christmas holidays and spending time with their families.
Mrs. Utsey’s class wants to thank all the parents who sent in cookies and decorations for the Accelerated Reader celebration. Also, a big thank-you to the parents who came in and helped set up and helped the children. We are so proud of everyone that was there for meeting their reading goal this quarter.
We are working hard on our two-digit subtraction.
We have a busy week ahead with our class Christmas party and our “Polar Express” pajama day!
Mrs. Peturis’ class is very excited about their presentation of the play titled “Merry Christmas, Charlie Brown.” We have enjoyed the planning and practice it takes to present a play. We have determined that it takes skill to read and work a puppet at the same time. We are having a great time and are looking forward to sharing our hard work with our peers and our parents.
During the 2008 holiday season the Design Stars at DES have completed thank-you cards for the troops and beautiful angels inspired by the famous Alabama folk artist Mose Tolliver.
Students will be starting the new year out by squishing primary colors of Play-Doh together to see how many other colors they can create - studying color theory is always a lot of fun for the Design Stars.
Mrs. Nolfe’s third-grade Project Jubilee students visited the 5 Rivers Delta Resource Center last week and had great time learning about our local waters and ways we can help preserve and protect them! As a special treat, the students and chaperones were treated to a surprise lunch at Pizza Hut -
Merry Christmas from Mrs. Nolfe!
This week students are extremely busy in their regular classrooms, but presented their presidential speeches and celebrated “Project Jubilee” style in their Project Jubilee class on Wednesday. Parents be sure to look for new pictures on the Web sites.
