Thank you so much to our DES-PTA for a wonderful Fall Festival. Lots of fun was had by all.  Ms. Jackson was crowned our Fall Festival Queen with Mrs. Stembridge the first runner-up and Mrs. Lindsey Blackman the second runner-up.  Congratulations to the winners! Thank you also to parents who sent in goodies for the Fall Festival, as well as working in the booths throughout the day.

Teachers want to thank our PTA for providing duty-free lunch last Thursday. Teachers were treated to many Halloween goodies while parent volunteers manned the cafeteria.

Several Daphne Elementary School teachers have been busy preparing for the upcoming Mama Mia Cook Off this Saturday, Nov. 8.  Make plans to join us at Daphne City Hall for a wonderful sampling of local Italian cuisine.  Tickets are available at the school, as well as many local merchants or through the SEEDS organization.

Just a reminder:  No school on Nov. 1 in celebration of Veterans Day.  Thank you to our veterans for helping make our country what it is today!

Ms. Jackson’s kindergarten class is learning about the first Thanksgiving. The students are taking a look at how the Pilgrims and Native Americans came together and celebrated the first Thanksgiving.

Kindergarten students in Mrs. McGinty’s class are learning about the Wild West and cowboys!  The students drew horses in the style of Frederick Remington.  Then they glued a picture of themselves on a real horse that was taken at the farm!  (Yee Haw!)  The class will celebrate Thanksgiving with their very own feast on Nov. 25.  Students will prepare their own meal!

Students in Mrs. Bowen’s third-grade class will continue with their election unit and study of the government.  Students are incorporating math with the election.  They used tally marks to record which candidate they would vote for.  Then, the class graphed the results.  This was fun!

Mrs. Megginson’s third-graders have been very involved learning about past presidents of the United States. The students did a report on a president and are sharing them this week in class. Many thanks to Mrs. Kim Nolfe and her Project Jubilee students for organizing our schoolwide student mock election for our school.
