DAPHNE, Ala.—The Daphne Fire Department “Smoke House” was here all week. Students toured the “Smoke House,” and learned important fire safety tips and the importance of having their own family home fire escape plan.

Daphne Elementary will be celebrating Red Ribbon Week next week with all sorts of fun and crazy activities that will remind students the importance of staying away from drugs.  Next weeks’ activities include “Shade Out Drugs” (wear your favorite sunglasses), “Hugs not Drugs” (bring your favorite stuffed animal), “Elect to be drug free” (wear a red, white and blue shirt with uniform bottoms) and “Sock it to drugs” (wear your wildest socks).

Mrs. Utsey’s second-grade class had fun listening to the music and reading books from 1940s authors. Thanks to Mrs. Suchan for bringing in supplies for their splatter art.

Congratulations to Rusty Younkin for being chosen Shining Star of the Week.

Third-graders in Mrs. Walter’s class are using the descriptive mode of writing. This week the students described the things they saw, heard, and felt in a “Haunted House.” The class will also be learning about onomatopoeia and similes, and how to include them in their writing.

Mrs. Nolfe’s third-grade Project Jubilee students are learning about the election process.  This week students generated a list of character traits presidential candidates should possess and why they believe these traits are so important.  Students will be researching their favorite president and presenting a report in the upcoming weeks.

Project Jubilee will also be sponsoring Daphne Elementary School’s student mock election on Tuesday, Nov. 4.
