Thank you to all who helped with Field Day last Friday. Great fun was had by all!

Congratulations to our Publicity Committee – Kelly Smith, Jim Ayers, Stephanie Janes and Gwen Peturis. The committee was recently recognized for their excellent representation of Daphne Elementary in local publications. Thanks for a job well done!

The PTA has sent home information regarding our final fundraiser of the year. It is hoped that the proceeds from this fundraiser will raise the final $5,000 needed to complete the next phase of our playground. The students will be selling The 10Card. The cost of the card is $20 and will offer the holder a discount at area restaurants and businesses, and basically pay for themselves after several uses.

The restaurants and businesses are listed in the brochure that will accompany the card and are located in Daphne, Fairhope and Spanish Fort. Rather than carrying a coupon book, you just keep the card in your wallet and present it for a discount. Please support our school for a wonderful cause and help our local economy!

The PTA also wants you to mark your calendar for Saturday, May 10. A playground work day is planned and any and all help will be greatly appreciated!

School registration packets were sent home this week for all students. Please complete the information and return to school before the last day of school. This allows our office to plan for the upcoming year. If your student is a third-grader and will attend W.J. Carroll Intermediate next year, they still need to return the information. The packets will be collected in the office and sent to the other campus.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact the office.

Have you made your summer plans yet? Don’t forget to include the SEEDS Lyceum Summer Camp!

Join the fun as SEEDS, Daphne’s education foundation, presents a whole new program of enrichment classes that are sure to brighten your summer afternoons. Expert teachers and exciting themes await you in our SEEDS Lyceum Summer Camps!

Brochures were sent home with the children last week highlighting classes that will be offered.

Various courses will be taught during the weeks of June 16–20, July 7–11 and July 23–27. The classes are offered from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. Topics for the younger grades include Around the World in Five Days; Poetry Café; What’s the Word?; Reflections of Me; Beginning Research; and Como Esta? If you are interested, please register soon. Class size is limited to 20 and participants will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.

If you need a brochure, please stop by any of the local school campuses and ask for a SEEDS Lyceum Summer Camp brochure!

This week Mrs. D. Smith’s and Ms. V. Smith’s classes are concentrating on word families in reading and subtraction in math.

During unit time the students are working on several “surprises” for our moms.

Mrs. Pierce’s first-grade class is continuing to learn about plants. They are growing lawns in their room and are looking forward to cutting them. They are learning so much about plants and how they grow. The class is excited to start their unit on measurement. They are using various objects to measure things in our environment.

First-graders in Mrs. Riel’s class are studying measurement in math.  They are learning oy, oi, ou, ow words in spelling.  The class is also reading about Amelia Earhart in reading.

Mrs. Utsey’s class had a great time at field day! The class favorites were the obstacle course and the big slide!

The students are starting their unit on the Solar System. They are looking forward to studying about the stars and planets. The students will be able to design their own constellations.

Congratulations to our Shining Star of the week, Durand Bailey. Also, congratulations to our April-May Principal’s picks: Brianna Adcox and Tyler Smith.

Third-graders in Mrs. Lindsay Blackman’s class are learning how to make homemade lemonade. After they learn how to make it, they are going to write the steps in the process. This is our last week of spelling and vocabulary testing and everyone is very excited!

Mrs. Nolfe’s third-grade Project Jubilee students are enjoying their study of medieval times. They are anxious to complete the castles they painted last week. They will also study heraldry and design their own coat of arms.
