In Music with Mrs. Dowdy, the entire school has been learning about the music of Africa for the past two weeks. Students have played authentic African instruments like the kalilmba and the shakere, danced to “Pata, Pata,” played a rock-passing game and learned a song in the Ashanti language of Ghana.
March is Youth Art Month, and at DES we are hosting a family art show called “Picture Me Creative.” Students, staff and their families are encouraged to send in examples of visual art or a photo of individuals participating in other forms of artistic expression — singing, dance, musician, theater, etc. Art work and photos may be dropped off at the front office or the art room. Please include student’s name and teacher along with name of the artistic individual and relationship to student or staff member. Please do not send an item that is irreplaceable; copies work just fine. The art work and photos will be on display throughout March in the main hallway. Contact T. Majure for further information: tmajure@bcbe.org.
Mrs. Nolfe’s third-grade Project Jubilee students are still solving crimes in their CSI unit. This week students worked on ciphers and codes. Mrs. Nolfe and her students would like to thank Mr. Bob, our wonderful and willing bus driver who not only drove us to the Pelican’s Nest last week, but who also braved the cold temperature to help seine the waters of Mobile Bay for the students’ exploration of marine creatures. They also thank Mrs. Conner who helped chaperone the field trip.
