What’s happening at DES

Oct. 10 was the end of Daphne Elementary’s first quarter.  Report cards will be going home on Friday, Oct. 17.

Team 4 has just begun their two-week duty on our Safety Patrol. These second-graders are Zachary Breaux, Rusty Younkin, Stephen Walding, Lauren Meyer, Madison Bias, Jonathan Cowan, Abby Glen, Ashleigh Langham, Aspen Pitt, Nicholas Brown, Thomas Manning and Walt Cassidy.

We are very proud to the patrol members; they help our students arrive safely in the mornings and depart safely in the afternoons.

Mrs. Riel’s first-graders are also studying animal groups and look forward to the Environmental Center field trip.  The class has been working in groups to make collages of different animal groups.  The students are beginning addition and subtraction in math.

Third-graders in Mrs. Blackmon’s class are learning about landforms in social studies.  The students made flap booklets to illustrate landforms such as mountains, plains, plateaus and the coast.

Mrs. Bowen’s third-grade class is continuing their study of plants and what they need to grow.  The class will actually grow a plant next week.  These seeds were donated to the class by Wal-Mart. Students have also moved to two- and three-digit addition and subtraction.

Please remember to donate any gently used books, VHS tapes, or DVDs to the DES library during October.  Our “Reading Round Up” has been a huge success! Thank you to all who participated!

The annual Barnes and Noble Book Fair will be held in the DES library Oct. 20-24.

Project Jubilee is looking forward to its first field trip scheduled for Friday, Nov. 7.  The group will be attending the Mobile Greek Fest as a culminating activity to their study of ancient Greece.
