DAPHNE, Ala. — Besides a new building, there is another addition to W.J. Carroll: sixth grade!
With our new school year underway, sixth grade is really working hard. Mrs. Benita Battle’s science classes have built things multiple times in our brand new science lab. Mrs. Jennifer Newton’s social studies classes have been learning about inventions from the late 1800s. Ms. Stephanie Carroll’s language art classes have already had many writing projects. This year is off to a great start for sixth grade.
Mrs. Henderson’s fifth-grade class has been studying map skills and learning landforms of the United States. They recently created “tissue paper” regions to mark the borders of the five regions in the United States. In English, they are starting the writing process and creating expository papers about their favorite food.
We are pleased to announce that Mrs. Benita Battle is has been selected as our first Teacher of the Month for the 2008-2009 school year. Mrs. Battle, who moved from fifth grade to sixth grade this year, has been so helpful and patient helping all of the new sixth-grade teachers acclimate to a different school and new procedures.
Project Jubilee recycles used laser and inkjet print cartridges, old cell phones, PDAs, iPods, digital cameras, laptop computers, video game systems and video games. We are able to redeem the equipment for points that can be used to purchase technology equipment and classroom supplies. The items can be dropped off at the school office. We welcome local businesses that might want to sponsor our school in this recycling effort. Please contact Mrs. Blair Heald through the school office if you have any questions.
