Don’t forget that we will not be here next Monday and Tuesday, Feb. 4 and 5, for Mardi Gras holidays. Be safe and have fun! We will see you back at school on Feb. 6.

Did you know that we have a PTO Meeting real soon? Mark Monday, Feb. 11 on your calendars! The meeting begins at 6:30p.m. We will also have our Science Fair that evening.

In Mrs. Michelle Henderson’s fifth-grade class, students have been very busy. In social studies, the class made trees to tell about our country’s three branches of government. The students had a lot of fun with this activity. In science, the class drew pictures of objects with potential energy then pictures of the same objects with kinetic energy. They also cut pictures out of old magazines that showed things with either potential or kinetic energy.

Last week, many students at our school wrote a paper for the My Favorite Book essay contest. Their will be two fourth-grade contest winners from our school, and two from fifth grade. The winning essays from our school will advance to be judged against the rest of Baldwin County’s winners. There will be one over-all county winner for each elementary school grade. The contest prize is a $15 book-store gift card and a framed certificate. The Baldwin County Reading Council is sponsoring this annual essay contest to encourage children to read and to write. The essay contest is open to all first- through sixth-grade students.

The winners, their families, teachers and principals will be invited to the Feb. 21 meeting of the Baldwin County Reading Council at Christ the King School in Daphne for presentation of the prizes.

Fourth grade has been working on their science fair projects. The students have to pick a topic that interests them and is testable. The topic has to be something the students have always wondered about like, “Do all apples have the same amount of seeds?” Students should have already started on their project. Remember that the projects will be on display in the gym Feb. 11.
