STOCKTON, Ala. — From turkey and quail to more unusual wild game, residents will have the opportunity to taste dishes utilizing such meat at the Stockton Civic Club's annual Wild Game Cookoff this Saturday.
The event, which will feature more than 20 cooking teams, silent and live auctions and an antique car show, among other things, will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Old School Yard Park.
"Ticket holders will be able to sample a wide variety of wild game dishes as well as dishes routinely served at hunting and fishing camps," event organizer Ruth Sherrell said.
Sherell said the auctions are always a big pull, and this year is no exception.
"Local merchants have generously donated many items to tempt bidders," she said. "Also included in the auction is a beautiful hand-made quilt.
"The queen-size quilt features a deer motif and is sure to please any hunter or nature lover."
Sherell said the auction will also feature baked goods by some of Stockton's "outstanding cooks."
The day will also include an antique car show, featuring local muscle car collector Billy Reed and eight or 10 of his 70 restored vehicles.
"Over the past 10 years, Reed has purchased 70 cars and restored them to mint condition," Sherell said. "Included in his amazing collection is a '69 Camaro convertible, a '66 red Ford Cobra, a '71 Barracuda, a '64 Sting Ray and an '87 Porsche."
Proceeds from this event will be used to complete the new community center at the park.
"Local workers are donating their services to finish the interior of the building (but) funds are needed to purchase appliances for the kitchen and bathrooms, air conditioning and ceiling tiles," Sherell said.
