William Gillis Sanders, a native of Mobile, resident of Foley for 40 years and current resident of Westminster Village for the last 17 years, died on Wednesday, Feb. 29, 2016.
He attended Murphy High School and Tulane University, where he was a member of Beta Theta Pi Fraternity.
He owned W.G. Sanders Agency, a real estate and appraisal firm in Foley, where he served on the Riviera Utilities board, Foley Housing Authority board, Foley Nursing Home board and the Vanity Fair board, all for a number of years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. and Mrs. John Gillis Sanders of Mobile; sister, Carolyn Sanders Houston of Atlanta; and wife, Alice Hammond Sanders.
He is survived by his daughters, Alison “Pud” Sanders Nelson (Mrs. David B.), Ashley Sanders McCord (Mrs. Max W.); son, William “B” Sanders Jr. (Brooks); grandchildren, David Crawford Nelson, Elizabeth Newkirk Nelson, William Gillis Sanders III and Alice Brantley Sanders.
Private graveside services will be held at Pine Rest Cemetery in Foley.
