William Joseph “Billy” Stewart, 86, a native of Mobile and resident of Daphne, passed away peacefully at his home, surrounded by his loving family on Jan. 28, 2015.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Sylvia Carpenter Stewart; brother, Robert (Bobby) Stewart; and sister, Betty Stewart Foster.

He is survived by his son, CDR William Bowen Stewart; daughter-in-law, Julie Williams Stewart; grandsons, Hunter and Tyler; numerous nieces, nephews and relatives; as well as his caregiver of six years, Rosemary Lowe.

Mr. Stewart was a United States Marine Corps veteran who served during World War II and the Korean War. He fought in multiple engagements, but most notably in the Battle of the Chosin Reservoir and was part of the greatest generation.

He married Sylvia Carpenter, whom he had known since he was in first grade. They married shortly after he returned from Korea in 1951. His son “Bo” was born in 1960 and was their only child although “Billy” surrounded himself with countless loving nieces and nephews.

He worked at State Farm for 35 years before retiring and enjoying his devoted twin grandsons Hunter and Tyler. His smile and laugh will be sorely missed by friends and family.

The family would like to especially thank Belinda Pounds RN and Faith Strachan RN from Gentiva Hospice for their exceptional care.

Graveside services will be held Saturday, Jan. 31, 2015, at 2 p.m., at Memory Gardens of Fairhope.
