William Sid Latimer, 83, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2014 at Arbor Springs Health and Rehabilitation.
Mr. Latimer was born July 28, 1931 to John B. and Clyde (Williams) Latimer in Gainesville, Ga.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Clyde Latimer; brothers, Harold Latimer, Harilee Latimer and Sam Latimer.
Mr. Latimer was a loving husband of 51 years to Mary Frances (Buffington) Latimer. He is survived by his wife; a son, Michael Latimer (Jessica); daughter, Marla Kickliter; two brothers, Ned Latimer (Diana) and Phil Latimer (Shirley); a sister, Beverly Martin; and three grandchildren, Chance Roberts, Chandler Roberts and Trey Kickliter.
Mr. Latimer spent 22 years in the United States Air Force. During this time he completed tours to Germany, Korea and Alaska.
He served as an air traffic controller and retired as a CMSGT.
His civilian career was spent at Burford Equipment Co. and Thompson Tractor. He was an avid gardener and sports fan.
He was an active member and past president of Optimist Club International. After retirement, he volunteered with Meals on Wheels and his church.
In his final years, he warmed the hearts of his caregivers at Camellia Place Assisted Living and Arbor Springs Health and Rehab.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, Nov. 6, 2014, at 11:45 a.m., at Frederick-Dean Funeral Home in Opelika, with visitation from 10 until 11:30 a.m.
Interment will follow the service in Fort Mitchell National Cemetery in Fort Mitchell, Ala.
