DAPHNE, Ala. — Fresh flowers decorated the Fellowship Hall of Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church, the setting for Willie Mae Johnson’s 95th birthday on Aug. 15.
Johnson is the widow of Frank Johnson. They share 12 children: four daughters and eight sons.
Annie Kate Dailey planned and coordinated the celebration for her grandmother. Michael Finley, grandson, served as master of ceremonies.
The event included loving tributes given individually by her children’s families, the reading of a resolution from the City of Daphne and Johnson’s children sang her favorite song, “Let Your Light Shine.”
Closing remarks were highlighted by a reading of a letter to Mrs. Johnson from President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama, honoring the occasion.
