Rosario “Rosie” Wilson, 79, of Orange Beach, died Monday, April 5, 2010 surrounded by family, after a long battle with breast cancer.

She was born on Oct. 1, 1930 in Caracas, Venezuela, the youngest of three children of Joseph M. and Rosario A. Gallegos. In 1942, her family moved to Baton Rouge, La., where she attended University High School and Louisiana State University. She retired in 1985 after nearly 30 years with the Internal Revenue Service.

She married William H. “Bill” Wilson on Sept. 29, 1950 in Baton Rouge, La. They had two children, William H. Wilson Jr. of Plano, Texas, and Linda Wilson Clark of Germantown, Tenn., four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

She enjoyed a long and happy retirement, the last 17 years of which were spent on Ono Island near Orange Beach. She was very active in Church and social activities. She was an active member of St. Thomas by the Sea Catholic Church in Orange Beach. She was a member of the Ono Island Ladies Club, the Ono Garden Club, and Bosom Buddies of South Baldwin. She was a passionate gardener with a green thumb.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Rosario Gallegos; and brother, William J. Gallegos.

Survivors include her husband of nearly 60 years, William H. Wilson; daughter, Linda Wilson Clark of Germantown, Tenn.; son, William H. Wilson Jr., of Plano, Texas; grandchildren, Julie Clark Newman of Collierville, Tenn., Jennifer Clark Cochran of Germantown, James Clark Jr. of Memphis, Tenn., and Sarah R. Wilson of Plano, Texas; and a brother, Edward L. Gallegos, of Baton Rouge, La.

Visitation begins at 10:30 a.m. with funeral services at noon Friday, April 9 at St Thomas by the Sea Catholic Church, Orange Beach. A reception at the church will follow the service.
